Museum of Selfies

Photography, and selfies in particular, in museums is a sticky subject. But what if the portraits we see took part in this phenomenon? Wait no longer, the Museum of Selfies created by Oliva Muus is exactly that. A digital museum that showcases portraits and sculptures as if they were taking a selfie.

Whatever your opinion on “selfie culture” is, there is a clear change in how the character and emotion of the portrait is perceived. While the original looked austere or joyful, add a phone in front and the same face can suddenly appear conceited or vain.

This digital museum is one everyone can contribute to. Even the museums themselves have jumped on the trend including the Smithsonian.
